I'm a new user, i read the documentation for target creation and there is something I didn't understand well. To create a target we need photos of the target and a 3d mesh.

It's explained why we need the 3d mesh, to have the dimension and orientation of the object.

But I don't understand why we need photos of the target if we have a mesh.

Is it to detect textures and features ?

the mesh is used only to set the scale and orientation of the trackable data with reference to the real object the mesh refers to. Instead trackable data, which is basically a pointcloud, is generated by means of the photos and the features extracted from them.
